Why Strive For Something?

If you are committed to growing and developing yourself personally you have so many more possibilities. You can create the future that you want. You can feel how you want. You can be the person that you really feel like you are meant to be.

Why don’t we make the effort to change?

We’re worried things will just go right back to the way they were before. “What’s the point?”

That can lead you to feeling hopeless, believing you’re just not good enough or that you are incapable of change.

How do you want striving or progressing to feel like?

Once we have the foundational understanding of who we already are by virtue of existing in this world -- that we have divine worth and value already --THEN we can ask questions like:

“How can I maximize my potential?”

“How can I grow into the person who can make an impact?”

“How can I have the relationships that I want to have and really live a joyful and fulfilling life?”

Anything else that you learn and grow and progress with, you’re opening up even more of who you already are.

If you don’t start with that kind of foundational belief, then when you’re striving for something and working really hard to get it, once you get there, you’re not going to feel any different. You’re still going to feel less than, or like you’re never good enough.

That’s why it’s so important to start from the beginning, knowing you are loved and worthy just the way you are. From there, you can want to learn and grow to help others and yourself, and to just want more from your own life.

“I am invested in my own personal growth because I believe it can help me feel better on a day to day basis, it can help me create the future that I want. Just because I have an understanding of my value and my worth innately that doesn’t always mean I’m going to feel good day to day or be doing things that are meaningful or the work I’m meant to do in the world. They’re different things.” - Kristin

How can you change your mindset about personal growth?

Look for a thought that you can believe that will help you feel how you want to feel in the striving. What do you want to feel in the meantime??

  • For me, I want ease, calm, feeling enough

  • Trust that the future IS being created through what I’m currently doing -- it’s going to be what I want it to be

What can I believe that will help me feel those things?

  • “I’m curious what combination of strategies will get me to my goal”

  • “Work is supposed to be fun”

  • “Work is play”

“I want the striving to be memorable for me. Otherwise, why do it if I’m just trying to get to the finish line? I want to enjoy right now.” - Laura

“Striving doesn’t feel good all the time. We need to learn and grow and stretch ourselves and sometimes that stretching can be really uncomfortable. But it’s so important not to do it to the point of exhaustion. Take those breaks and then keep going.” - Laura

“There are the days that aren’t great or aren’t as productive as I’d like, but I have confidence in the process generally. I know I’ve created a system in my life where one day or week of not getting things done or making progress is okay because I know how to get back to progress. Part of that is making goals in the first place that you’re going to actually do and want to do. Be intentional about the goals you make in the first place so that they’re things that you can integrate right away and not have hanging over you feeling guilty that you’re not progressing on them. “ - Kristin
